Bilateral retinal vein occlusion in association with factor v leiden and methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase mutation : a case report

Abstract EN

We report a rare case of bilateral retinal vein occlusion in a 68 year old male patient.

The patient had a previous history of right upper hemispherical retinal vein occlusion complicated by glaucoma and vitreous hemorrhage.

He was referred to the retina clinic at King Hussein Medical Center with left upper temporal branch vein occlusion and exudative retinal detachment.

He was hypertensive and had a past history of right leg deep vein thrombosis.

Ophthalmologic examination showed rubeosis iridis and vitreous hemorrhage in the right eye and upper temporal branch retinal vein occlusion with extensive ischemia and exudative retinal detachment in the left eye.

Investigations revealed factor V Leiden and methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase mutations to be heterozygous.

Right retinocryopexy followed by panretinal photocoagulation and left sectorial retinal photocoagulation was done.

The findings are discussed below.
