يعتبر تكريس الحق في الإعلام البيئي أمرا أساسيا للمشاركة في صناعة القرارات البيئية ذلك أن عملية صناعة القرار البيئي تقتضي ممن يتولاها أو يشارك فيها قدرا من المعرفة و المعلومات بالموضوع محل القرار المراد اتخاذه و وفقا لهذا الفهم فإن الحق في الحصول على المعلومات يقتضي توافر هذه المعلومات فعلا من مصادرها و واجب الجهات التي تحتفظ بهذه المعلومات هو إتاحة هذه المعلومات بناء على طلب المهتمين بها و توفيرها للجمهور وفق آليات تتيح للأفراد فرصة للاطلاع على هذه المعلومات و تحليلها بهدف الإستفادة منها و استخدامها في عملية صنع القرار أو المشاركة في صناعته.

According to this understanding, the right of get (obtain) Information requires a real providing of these informations from their sources and the duty of the entities that maintain these informations, is to make them available at the request of the interested parties and to provide them to the public according to mechanisms that allow individuals to view these informations and analyze them, for Benefiting and using them in decision-making process or participating by them in decision-making.
