Abstract EN

The improvement in fuel prices since 2000 led to a monetary expansion accompanied by an increase in the inflation rate in Algeria during the period 2000-2016.

As the causes of inflation are multiple of monetary, structural and institutional reasons, the Bank of Algeria was required to use several monetary instruments to maintain price stability.

Reduce inflation significantly despite its control over the monetary reasons established for it.

Reducing inflation requires real reforms in the production and distribution aspect by increasing the flexibility of the production apparatus outside the hydrocarbon sector, reorganizing markets, increasing their competitiveness and eliminating monopolies in some commodity markets.
