Abstract EN

In this article, we study the productivity of electricity companies in 17 African countries by measuring Malmquist's productivity index.

We also identify the determinants of the change in total factor productivity (TFP) for the period 2002-2016.

We note that the TFP index for all pay is negative for the period 2002-2016.

Regarding the determinants of TFP change, our study shows that the connection of electricity industries from one country to another (pool variable), rain, hydropower and urbanization increase TFP.

Privatization has a negative impact on PTF.

The theoretical debate between a company's ownership regime and its performance has led to mixed results in the electricity sector in SSA.

African countries should encourage the creation of energy pools that can provide additional benefits in terms of reducing capital expenditures, reducing electricity supply costs, improving the reliability of the system, and achieving success integration policy.
