Abstract: The sequencing of the human genome is a milestone in the history of science.

Controversy over the ownership of genetic information has also arisen in the context of patenting gene sequences and disclosure of information to insurance companies.

This paper report on the position of developing countries on genetic ownership.

The paper argues that developing countries should not wait until the patent expires on the gene and/or the treatment, and prices drop and the drug or treatment becomes generic.

They should act earlier.

However, the capabilities of a single developing country are not enough to compete with large corporations.
