Abstract EN
The notion of ethos, by its very versatility, is useful for analyzing nominative practices that can not be easily grasped through our modern categories.
This can be seen by considering the proper fictional name.
This is indeed a phenomenon that has long been relegated to the margins of various disciplines, including literary and linguistic.
When the phenomenon is approached from the point of view of discourse analysis it is above all a question of discursive order that comes to the fore: do there really exist possibilities offered in the discourse by the proper name in terms of ethos, as can be seen in the two novels Les chants cannibales and What do the monkeys expect from the French-speaking Algerian author, Yasmina Khadra? But, as we will see, reflecting on the proper name in terms of ethos, we are also led to highlight that the study of proper names can embody the author of the text and guarantor of the ethos because the onomastic choice influences the impression created by the author.
