language basic sociolinguistic dataThis article aims at giving the basic sociolinguistic data of an ancient language of North Africa, the Amazigh (kabyle) language.

Whether the origin of the nomination "Berber" and Amazigh, the relationship of the Berber language to the Hamito-Semitic large family, the geographical area occupied by that language, as well as the number of speakers that we consider as elements of linguistic vitality of any language.

Despite the extreme fragmentation that this language undergoes, researchers consider all Berber dialects as constituent of one language having the degree of unity, particularly the grammatical level which remains the same in all dialects.

In order to modernize the Amazigh (Kabyle) language, this latter knew from the beginning of the sixties many improvements thanks to the language planning due to personal efforts of certain people.

Finally, we presented some steps related to the political and social status of the Amazigh language.
