It's plain enough, that the relationship between the Ottoman empire and its belonging states was a matter of a great controversy discussions among historians, some claimed it’s a mere relation of the master and his slave others however, said it’s a competitive relationship.

Among the Ottoman states that raised a fierce argument was Tunisia; this later was the subject matter of many disputes.

in one hand, the Ottoman empire insisted that Tunisia is a part of its own property basing on a pure historical background, and in the other hand France basing on a colonial consideration claimed that Tunisia is a free and independent state.
