The National Movement in Madagascar (1896- 1960)Dr.

Sahar Abbas Al-JubouriQatar University / College of Arts and Sciences / Department of HumanitiesThis modest search attempts to track the national movement in Madagascar during the period (1896- 1960) to find out how the national movement faced the French occupation during this period.

The nature of the subject necessitated dividing it into a preamble and three main themes and a conclusion.

The third and last section dealt with the national liberation movement in Madagascar from the occupation in 1896 until independence in 1960.

This research was based on a variety of sources, mainly foreign theses and Arab and foreign sources.

It can be said that the resistance movement carried out by the national movement in Madagascar during the years after the fall of the Kingdom was characterized by the spontaneous nature of the program, improvisation and the loss of the elements of planning and organization.

Although the events of World War II and their consequences have affected all the colonies, including Madagascar, it was on this basis that the revolution of 1947 started, which alerted the French authorities to reconsider its policy within this colony.

Consequently, the French authorities succumbed to the will of the movement and its exit from Madagascar, and the latter gained independence in 1960.
