The underlying aim of the present paper is to study the concept of degradation in English and Arabic from a linguistic perspective, which occurs through investigating its linguistic realizations (or manifestations) in both languages.
The study deals with the problem of how to recognize the degrading language in English as well as Arabic.
In this study, it is hypothesized that English and Arabic share some realizations of degradation and differ in others.
The paper has shown some conclusions, the most important of which is that there are similarities and differences between English and Arabic with regard to realizations of degradation.
This conclusion validates the hypothesis above.
This study is divided into three sections.
The first two sections deal with degradation in English and Arabic respectively.
The third section shows a comparison between English and Arabic with regard to degradation.
