After more than eight years have passed since the "Arab Spring revolutions", protests erupted in both Sudan and Algeria, hoping to bring about a radical change in the nature of the political system that left intractable crises, and to build state institutions based on the principles of democracy under a civil rule that enjoys legitimacy.

The popular movement in Sudan was contained after the establishment of the Sovereign Council, which assumed the functions of running state affairs in the transitional phase, a difficult and sensitive phase through which the future of the Sudanese state will be determined.
