Role of coloured doppler U. S. of umbilical a rtery in hypertensive pregnant women

Gestational hypertension is one of the most important causes of maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity.

The aim of this work was to assess the efficacy of Doppler umbilical artery as screening tool for gestational hypertensive pregnancies for prediction of adverse fetal outcome.

This study included 30 pregnant women after 32 weeks gestation; they were classified into three groups, control, mild hypertensive and severe hypertensive group.

In our study, we found a significant difference in Doppler indices (S/D, RI and PI) among control and hypertensive groups, where hypertensive cases had higher levels.

We have found a negative correlation between Doppler indices and fetal outcome represented by APGAR score at 1 and 5 minutes, and birth weight.

Also, Doppler umbilical artery indices were compared with Biophysical profile (BPP).

In this study we concluded that there was a highly significant association between abnormal umbilical Doppler wave forms and BPP on one hand and poor pregnancy outcome on the other hand.
