Abstract EN

This study aims to identify the reality of active learning strategies as used by secondary school teachers in Kuwait for the implementation of lessons at school, and the obstacles these teachers face when using them.

To this end, a tool has been developed – a questionnaire consisting of (60) phrases distributed on three axes, which included defining the strategies, the reality of their use, and the obstacles involved in using them.

This tool was applied to a sample of 450 teachers (both males and females) of basic subjects in secondary schools in the six educational zones of Kuwait.

The results revealed that teachers use a range of active learning strategies at an average level in the implementation of lessons, and that there is a series of obstacles to applying active learning strategies.

They also revealed that there are no statistically significant differences between the teachers' average scores in terms of the reality of using these strategies as per the gender variable.

However, it was clear that there are differences on the assessment of this reality as per the subject variable in favor of the teachers of social studies, mathematics and sciences, compared to teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education.

Moreover, there are statistically significant differences in the assessment of the degree to which these obstacles impact the use of active learning strategies as per the variable of the number of years of service in favor of teachers whose number of years of service belongs to the category labelled (10 years or more).
