Following the Iranian parliament's rejection of the 1947 Soviet-Iranian oil agreement, Moscow, through its communist proxies in Iran, attempted to embarrass the Iranian government by arousing public opinion against the Iranian government for a British oil concession in the south. As a result, the Iranian parliament nationalized oil in 1951, which led to a crisis in British-Iranian relations.
