Abstract EN
This paper is an attempt to investigate the projection in an Arabic literary text.
It tries to show the connection between linguistics and literature, i.e.
Arabic literary texts can be disclosed by using grammar.
The paper also aims at analyzing an Arabic short story by using projection which is one of the logico-semantic relations between Arabic clause complexes.
The approach taken for this description and analysis is Systemic Functional Grammar.
This analytical approach is mainly taken from the work of Michael Halliday, in particular the model set out in An Introduction to Functional Grammar (1994) and Halliday and Matthiessen (2004).
The paper hypothesizes that one type of projection is more frequently used than others in the text.
It also hypothesizes that some type of projection across mood is frequently found.
The paper concludes that the quoting type highly exists in the Arabic text.
It also comes up to the conclusion that the quoting type across declarative mood is more frequently used in the text.
