This study seeks to identify the usage trends of social media; represented by YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Keek; among public university students, both male and female, in the city of Riyadh, and to identify the major topics of interest searched Using the methodology of the media survey, the questionnaire tool, and applied to a sample of (1046) single sample method available, distributed to a number of Saudi government universities in Riyadh.

The study reached a number of results, the most important of which are: An important result that emerged from the analysis of 1049 questionnaire responses was that the vast majority of the study sample uses social media on a regular basis, spending an hour to three hours daily to obtain information.

In addition, it showed that females were more active than males in using these platforms.

YouTube was shown to be the preferred platform of the individuals of the study sample, and the most used by them to obtain information, followed by Twitter, Keek, and finally Facebook.

However, Twitter was the most essential platform in the opinion of the respondents, followed by YouTube, Facebook and finally Keek.

Concerning the topics searched for by the study sample on a regular basis, it was shown that entertainment related topics ranked first, followed by social issues, and in third place, cultural, technical and religious issues.

As for the topics searched for on an occasional basis, they were sports related, followed by women's affairs, and then political issues.

Economic issues were the least searched for topics in social media by the study sample.

Moreover, the results showed that groups who were older and more educated tend to follow political and economic issues, while the younger youth tend to follow entertainment and sports topics.
