Abstract EN

The degradation of halogenated Model compounds (Dichloromethane (CH2CI2), 1-Chlorobutane (CH3(CH2)3C1), Chlorobenzene (C6H5CI), and Tri-fluoro acetic acid (CF3COOH)) composed of chlorine and fluorine in aqueous solution under ultraviolet light irradiation by using the Porous Metal Oxides HTiNbO5 Catalyst was investigated.

The photodegradation activities was measured by, ion chromatography, ion selective electrodes titration, and total organic carbon analysis.

After 8.0 hours of irradiation with the catalyst, about 84% of the chlorine present in the compounds was released as chloride ions.

This cause’s a decrease in the pH of the solution.

Loss of samples via vaporization and escape into the air was responsible for incomplete photolyzation.

The new porous material has a high photocatalytic activity towards halogenated organic compounds in stirred water reactors as demonstrated by release of chlorine ions.

This shows to be a promising alternative to TiO2nano-powders.

The HTiNbO5 catalyst had much better sedimentation characteristics than TiO2nano powders and it can be separated easily, qualities that TiO2nano powders do not have
