The nature of the crime of smuggling narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in their forms and methods of committing them, increased their gravity due to their transgression of national borders, and given the seriousness of this crime, the international community succeeded in adopting international mechanisms of a global and regional nature in order to combat the illicit trade in drugs.

Algeria has entered into international treaties to coordinate joint international cooperation to address this crime, prevent its spread and surround its repercussions, and that its revenue is used to finance other criminal activities such as arms smuggling and terrorist financing.

This is because its risks and negative effects are not limited to a specific country or the countries in which it is committed, but rather exceeds the territorial boundaries of a single country due to the strategic locations occupied by drug cartels.
