The Middle ages is a golden age of Béjaïa; it was a capital of the hammadid dynasty, and became an important port and centre of culture.after it was province of the Almouhads Empire, and became in the hafside dynasty a second capital for them.

The Béjaïa important’s was increased while it was once of towns maghribins in the méditérranean trading extensively with many countries especially Italian républic (pisa, genoie) according the contracts of the peace and trade, whose maked a best conditions for their merchents activities.

Like funduqs (hotels) and plus at all this Béjaïa was a medium market between méditérranean mèrchent, and the wèstèrn Africa.
