Abstract EN

Since the prevalence of the market economy, the most countries of the world, including the developed and developing, have competed eagerly to attract the foreign direct investment through offering a package of incentives, in the hope of attracting foreign investors from abroad.

The foreign direct investment is the key to the economic development of the various countries of the world especially the developing countries, which are suffering from weak capital level, as well as the transfer of expertise and knowledge, advanced technology, creating additional jobs, contributing to export development, improving the state of trade balance and balance of payments.

From this point of view, the research aims to analyze the reality of investment and foreign direct investment in the Kurdistani Region of Iraq during the period (2006 - 2016), and how to distribute it in the region between sectors and governorates and according to the type of investor and the nationality of the investor and years of investment.

The research concluded into a number of conclusions, perhaps the most prominent is the weakness of the role of foreign direct investment in the Kurdistani Region of Iraq during the period of research in terms that the size of the capital invested formed 13.17% of the total investments, as well as the imbalance in the guidance of foreign capital invested to the economic sectors in the region during that period Of (2006-2016), and finally the research came out with a set of proposals, necessary to increase the role of foreign direct investment in the Kurdistani Region in the future.
