English Abstract

This study was conducted in the vegetable field of Department of Horticulture and Landscape design, College of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Mosul during spring season 2018 to study the impact of two factors, the first: Soil mulch with black polyethylene and no mulch, the second: Zinc sulphate spraying on potato plants Actrice variety class E with concentrations: 0, 150, 300 and 450 mg.

L-1, the experiment was designed in the Split Plots system within a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replicates.

The results could be summarized as: Soil mulch significantly decreased the tuber emergence, tuber greening percentage, and significantly increased plant higher, number of stems per plant, leaf area per plant, chlorophyll contend in leaves, tuber number per plant, average of tuber, plant yield, marketable yield of tubers, total yield of tubers, dry matter and starch percentage in tubers.

Zinc sulphate spraying with 450 mg.

L-1 significantly increased plant higher, number of stems per plant, leaf area per plant, chlorophyll contend in leaves, tuber number per plant, average of tuber, plant yield, marketable yield of tubers, total yield of tubers, dry matter, starch and protein percentage in tubers.

The interaction between soil mulching and zinc sulphate spraying 300 mg.

L-1 increased plant higher 56.76 cm and number of tubers 12.94 tuber.

The interaction between soil mulching and zinc sulphate spraying 450 mg.

L-1 gave higher values of stem number 3.28 stem.

plant-1, leaf area 1895 cm2.

plant-1, chlorophyll contend in leaves 65.98, plant yield 1170 gm, average of tuber 135.08 gm, marketable yield of tubers 59.45 t.

ha-1, total yield of tubers 60.31 t.

ha-1, dry matter, starch and protein percentage in tubers 17.80% , 11.86% and 8.88% respectably, and gave lest value of tuber greening 3.75% .
