English Abstract

The research aims to study the effect of the plant cover in some chemical and fertility characteristics of the AL-Alam district using spectral indices.

A number of vegetation types were selected in the region (wheat, gat, palm trees, pomegranates, and okra) as well as Control area.

preparing of soil pedons for each plant covers, and then morphological description and samples of represent soils were achieved.

Chemical and fertility properties were measured (EC, pH, O.M, CaCO3, CaSO4.2H2O, CEC, Total N, Ava, P, Exch.

Cations).

The acquire satellite image was used at date 13-2, 20-5 and 7- 7 in the 2015 year.

SI, LDI, NDVI, CMFI spectral indices maps were prepared using ERDAS ver.15 and ArcGIS 10.1 programmes.

The results showed the effect of the plant cover type in the chemical and fertility soil properties.

Organic matter content, available phosphorus, and total nitrogen,CEC increased under the vegetation compared to the control area.

The results indicated a positive logarithmic regression relationship between SI and EC with the values of R2 0.85.

The organic matter content was positively related to linear regression with NDVI and negative logarithmic regression with LDI index.
