English Abstract

This experiment was carried out in physiology laboratory of horticulture department, College of Agriculture, Dohuk University for the period of 24 February to 2 May 2016.

The objective of this experiment was to investigate the effect of GA3 at different concentrations (100 and 200) mg.l-1 and Benzyl adenine (BA) at different concentrations (100 and 200) mg.l-1 and distillated water as control on the extending of vase life and some characteristics of two cultivars of Narcissus tazetta cut flowers (Khatini and Sempre Avanti).

The experiment was applied in a factorial arrangement, carried out in a complete randomized design.

Flowers were kept in glass vases containing 250 ml solutions.

The result showed that Sempre Avanti cv.

was significantly superior on Khatini cv.

in the vase life (18.33) days compared with (16.04) days for Khatini cv., volume of uptake water (24.26) ml and percentage of change in fresh weight (9.07%) while Khatini cv.

significantly differed and was superior on Sempre Avanti cv.

in number of opened florets per stalk florets (2.00 florets) and percentage of total carbohydrates in florets (0.13%).

Gebberllic acid (GA3) at both concentrations 100 and 200 mg.l-1 had a significant effect on the number of opened florets/stalk flower (2.72 and 2.50), percentage of change in fresh weight (8.45 and 8.67%) respectively and total carbohydrates in florets (0.12%) as a compared with control.

Benzyl adenine (BA) had a significant effect on the vase life of narcissus cut flowers (18.56) days, date to bending of nick flowers (22.94) days and total carbohydrates in florets (0.11%) when treated stalk flowers with 100 mg.l-1 BA compared with 200 mg.l-1 of BA and control.

The highest values of vase life (23.33) days were found in Sempre Avanti cv.

flowers when saved in preservation solution containing 100 mg.l1 of BA without GA3..
