Abstract EN

This study attempts to reveal some details of the unique romantic relationship between the writer ‘Abbās Mahmoud Al-‘Aqqād and the writer Mary Ilyas Ziyadah popularly known as May Ziyadah through what transpired from the exchange of correspondence between them in the from of letters and writings.

The importance of the study lies in its uniquely painting of the character of Al-ʿAqqad which might be unfamiliar among some critics and scholars; an aspect of human which is subdued by emotion and romance! It is observed that Al-‘Aqqad had indeed revealed a romantic character that is thirsty and longing after the pleasure of love which was willing to give up concessions after concessions for the sake of woman.

On the other hand, May was indeed a feminine character par excellence who would not shut her door to any keen candidate thus exhausting many while she herself was exhausted by Gibran burdening her with uneasiness until she finally became broken hearted afflicting her with emotional breakdown and self-defeat leaving her forever disappointed in realizing her maternal instinct that would otherwise have been possible during her life.
