Abstract EN

Bread and hunger have become among the deadly weapons used by the colonial powers and dictatorial regimes against oppressed peoples to impose their hegemony on them.

The Germinal novel by Emile Zola and The Great House of Mohammed Dib presented the problem of poverty and hunger, which has become the main concern of the heroes of these two novels who were suffering immeasurably to provide bread for their families, this bread which has become a rare in their times.

Hence, this study aims to reveal the extent of convergence and similarity between the two works, especially in their discussion to the causes and consequences of hunger and how to confront it.
