Abstract EN
Unsaturated poly ester (UPR) resins are widely used in the fiber reinforced plastic industry, the fracture toughness and impact resistance of rigid unsaturated polyester will be improved by several methods, one of this is blending with elastomers bearing reactive functional group.
The elastomers used in this study is low molecular weight Polybutadiene are known commercially "atralrat", molecular weight and other properties were identified.
The ararat were functionalized by grafting with malefic anhydride (MPB) and hydroxyl terminated poly butadiene (HTPB) and esterfication of maleated polybutadiene (EMPB).
The three modified polymer were characterized by infrared spectroscopy and evaluated by oil solubility, impact strength and hardness.
The functionalized (EMPB) polymer show better compatibility with UPR and improvement in toughness and impact resistance of the cured resin substantially.
