Abstract EN

The study aims to explore the standards of children’s literature, which should be included in the songs of ”our new beautiful language” text books for grades (1-4).

Besides, it seeks identifying the level of such inclusion in these songs, and the differences in this level attributable to the class variable.

The sample of the study consisted of (59) songs included in our beautiful language text books (first and second part) for in the new Palestinian curriculum.

The researcher adopted the analytical descriptive method, and built an analysis card consisting of (20) criteria distributed to (4) areas.

Results showed that such songs include the standards of children’s literature to a large extent in all the fields included in the analysis card.

As for the first-grade book, the field of ’Utterances and Vocabulary’ was high with a relative weight of (94.6 %).

The field of ’Ideas’ got a relative weight of (89.1 %).

The field of ’Beauty and Poetic Imagery’ also had a relative weight of (86 %).

The ’Rhythm’ had a relative weight of (79.7 %).

As for the second-grade book, the weights of the criteria were as follows: first (90.8 %), second (87 %), third (79.7 %) and fourth (81.3 %).

As for the third-grade book, weights of the criteria were as follows : 95 %, 87.6 %, 83.9 %, and 69 % respectively.

As for the fourth grade book, weights of the criteria were as follows : 95.1 %, 87 % 93 %, 81 % respectively.

The results of the study also indicate that there are no differences in the level the standards due to the variable of the class in all categories (fields) of the analysis card, except the field of ’Utterances and Vocabulary’.

The study presented a set of recommendations stemming from its finding.
