Abstract EN

This study aims to identify training needs of Kuwait University faculty members in general and in the following domains : teaching skills, personal skills, research skills, technical skills, and leadership skills.

In addition, it seeks to detect the differences in sample responses that can be attributed to gender, academic rank, and college specialization.

To achieve the study objectives, the descriptive survey method was adopted, and a questionnaire was developed and applied to a sample of (113) faculty members working at Kuwait University.

Using the appropriate statistical tools, the study reached several conclusions, the most important of which are : The general training needs of Kuwait University’s faculty members were high, the order of the training needs fields came as follows : personal skills, teaching skills, research skills, leadership skills, and finally technical skills.

Results showed statistically significant differences in the variable of college specialization, in the field of personal skills and the field of technical skills.

Tukey test revealed that differences in the field of personal skills were on the side of Professional - Literary colleges, and the differences in the field of technical skills were for the scientific colleges.

In the light of the findings, the study provided a number of recommendations, including : (a) The need for cooperation between the university administration and the deanship of colleges to adopt a comprehensive training program of a theoretical / practical nature that includes educating faculty members in the five training needs fields, and (b) because of the holistic character of the program, a specialized office (a unit or a centre) should be created in each college to follow the implementations of the program and preferably the chair of the office not less scientific rank than the rank of Assistant Professor (participant).
