English Abstract

SMEs represent an important source of economic growth, bank lending is the most common source of external financing for many SMEs and entrepreneurs, Islamic banking financing modes and products cover a big part of different investment types and are suitable for the financing needs of the investors.

The study aims to shed the lights on the Islamic financing for SMEs in Malaysian economy using Auto Regressive Distributed Lag approach (ARDL) with quarterly data (2013Q1-2017Q4).

The results show that providing financing to the SME sector by Islamic banks and the ratio of financing granted to this sector (28% of total financing) remains modest, Islamic lending to SME’s contribute only with 0.19% in the Malaysian economic growth in the period under study.
