Abstract EN

This study is concerned with one aspect of architecture represented in the record of crowns which we find in the mosque of the « Ksar » in Tunis during the rule of Khorasan.

This research is based on three main chapters.

The first chapter supports the theory that this religious building was originally a fortress.

During the reign of the Khorasan, the latter was then turned into a mosque by virtue of its preservation of this archaeological collection.

In contrast, other evidence point out that it was originally a church or a temple.

Thereafter we gave an overview of the location of the mosque in the urban fabric along with a general description of it.

In the second chapter, we dealt with the study of the crowns as reused building materials, thus, the different ancient Roman or Islamic assets derived from them and their order according to their position in the mosque's area and the diverse marble material from which this group was made.

Moreover, we brought to the fore the latter's ornamental record and the richness of its components on both the geometrical and vegetal levels compared to its counterpart the Great Mosque of Kairouan.

In the third part, we commented and followed the aspects of the continuity or break in the designing of this architectural element.

To sum up, the record of the crowns and the reused materials for construction significantly contribute, in general, to the rewriting of history for the periods of time that suffer from a great shortage of historical sources and archaeological monuments, such as the period of the independent Emirates in Ifriqiyia; hence, the importance of this type of microscopic and morphological studies of architecture.
