The ultimate goal of the criminal law is to reach the truth and to bring justice to life, these laws provide mechanisms and tools that help magistrates to discover the real facts and thus allow the rigorous application of legislation.

Witnesses play a very important role by helping justice agencies to come to the truth, and these witnesses may be victims of many dangers threatening their lives and their physical integrity.

To strengthen the role of the witness, the Algerian legislator was obliged to intervene in order to ensure the necessary protection for the witness and consequently to guarantee his testimony and this in favor of the judicial institutions and in favor of justice; this is what the legislator tried to concretecise by the penal code and proceedings.
