Solid-pseudo papillary tumor of the pancreas

Solid-pseudo papillary tumor is also called (Solid-Cystic, Solid and papillary Epithelial, Papillary-Cystic, or Frantz Tumor of the Pancreas).

It is a rare, low-grade malignant tumor that usually affects females in their second or third decade of life with slight predilection towards the black race.

Usually it is asymptomatic till it reaches a big size when it starts to give vague and not specific symptoms.

Diagnosis is not difficult when the condition is included in the differential diagnosis of any cystic lesion of the pancreas.

Diagnostic tools include abdominal ultrasonography, computerized tomography scan, magnetic resonance imaging, and fine needle aspiration cytological examination of the lesion.

In this paper we report a case of solid-cystic neoplasm of the pancreas in a 15 years old female patient who presented with vague abdominal pain and a mass.

Radiological investigations including abdominal ultrasound and computerized tomography scan examinations showed the characteristic features of solid-cystic neoplasm in the head of the pancreas with no evidence of metastasis.

The diagnosis was confirmed by fine needle cytological examination of the mass.

She underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple’s procedure) with uneventful postoperative course.

Follow up for six years did not show evidence of recurrence or metastasis.
