تعد الأمية ظاهرة مجتمعية متفشية في العديد من بلدان العالم، و قد أثرت بدورها في أن يتصف السكان الأميين بصفات اجتماعية و اقتصادية معينة دون غيرهم من السكان، و منها، ارتفاع حجم الاسرة، الزواج المبكر، انخفاض المستوى المعيشي لهم و ارتفاع معدلات العاطلين عن العمل بين صفوفهم، و غيرها من الخصائص.

Illiteracy is a widespread social phenomenon in many countries of the world.
It has also affected the illiterate population with certain social and economic characteristics without any other population, including high family size, early marriage, low standard of living, high rates of unemployment among their ranks, Of the characteristics.
