Abstract EN

This study aimed at recognizing the reasons behind the poor academic achievement in mathematics of the preparatory stage students at Al - Ramadi city schools in Iraq, from teachers' and principals' point of view.

In order to achieve the study purposes, a sample of preparatory stage mathematics teachers and principals at Al- ramadi city schools was chosen randomly, which was consisted of (36) male teachers, (36) female teachers, (18) male principals and (18) female principals.

The two researchers designed questionnaire that included five dimensions of reasons behind poor achievement, which were: (reasons related to the student, reasons related to the teacher, reasons related to the family, reasons related to the school environment, and reasons related to the school curriculum.The questionnaire reliability and validity were insured.

The findings of the study were as follows: -The reasons behind the poor academic achievement in mathematics of the preparatory stage students were low from teachers' and principals point of view.

-There were statistical differences at the level of (a = 0.05) for the reasons behind the poor academic achievement in mathematics of the preparatory stage students, due to the job variable, in favor of teachers, while there were no statistical differences due to the sex variable.

The two researchers proposed some recommendations such as conducting a new field study about reasons behind the poor academic achievement in mathematics of the preparatory stage students from the students' point of view.
