Abstract EN

The present study aimed at measuring the effectiveness of a strategy based on textual coherence to develop the skills of tasting poetic text and the awareness of its structure among first year secondary school students.

The researchers used the descriptive approach in presenting the problem of research.

They identified the steps of the strategy based on textual coherence and the skills of tasting the poetic text and aimed at raising the awareness of the structure appropriate for first year secondary school students.

The researchers also developed the tools of the study.

The experimental approach was used to verify the effectiveness of the strategy based on textual consistency in the development of the two variables of the study; namely, the skills of tasting the poetic text and the awareness of its structure among the students of the first year at the secondary stage.

The study used the semi-experimental design of the two groups: the controlled and experimental ones.

The proposed strategy was applied to the experimental group (60) male and (50) female students.

The tools of study were also implemented to the participants before and after the treatment.

These were the Test the skills of tasting the poetic text and the scale of the awareness of its structure.

The results indicated the effectiveness of the strategy in developing the two variables of the study.

Based on this, a number of recommendations were presented.

These include laying more emphasis on introducing the skills of tasting the literary text (poetry and prose) and linking it to the standards of text coherence for secondary stage students.

Moreover, the inclusion the literary texts and activities related based on the criteria of textual coherence is highly recommended so as to stimulate the students' potentials and creativity and develop their awareness of the structure of the literary text (poetry, prose.
