Abstract EN

This study examines the resolution and validity of the Self-Directed Search Questionnaire (SDS) developed by Holland (1994) for measuring the vocational interests of university women within Arabic culture.

Two hundred and twenty students were sampled at the United Arab Emirates University in four >eparate majors thought to attract different kinds of female students: psychology.

Arabic language, computer science, and geology.

The findings of the survey showed that students studying psychology and Arabic exhibited higher preferences for Hollands vocational interests in people/society and artistic expression.

In contrast, both the computer science and geology students scored appreciably higher than the psychology and Arabic students in the interest categories of questioning/investigating, enterprising and following convention, which also varied according to their father's level of education, but did not vary according to the mother's level of education.
