Abstract EN

This paper represents a study of a rare Abbasid dinar for the Caliph al-Mu'tamid 'alā 'llāh minted in Hamadān in 277 AH.

This dinar bears the names of both, his brother al-Muwaffaq Bi-Allah and his nephew Ahmed bin al- Muwaffaq Bi-Allah.

The dinar under study documents the return of the Abbasid caliphate control over Hamadān in this year.

Besides, it highlights the distinguished stature of al- Muwaffaq Bi-Allah in the succession of his brother al-Mu'tamid 'alā 'llāh, which qualified him to be the true ruler of the Abbasid state, who controls the conduct of its affairs.

Thus, being a prominent figure, he struck coins, among which is the rare dinar under study.
