Abstract EN

The success of translation can be assessed only by the readership’s subsequent behavior.

In this study, the researchers investigate the re- establishing the coherence in the target text.

This paper is based on a descriptive analysis of a text in terms of coherence.

It is an analysis of the translated texts produced by 4th year students (English Department) at Elmergib University.

The analysis is based on three elements: 1.

Identification of translation strategies adopted by subjects in their translations.

2.

Identification of the cohesive devices used in translated texts.

3.

Identification of the acceptability and unacceptability of the text (coherence).

This paper concentrates on the coherence, as the measure to the translated text.

This paper is based on the analysis of the translated texts with regard to coherence.

Also, it focuses on the translation of cohesive devices which integrate to cause coherent texts.

Students tend to produce sentence- based translation.

There is no logical continuity of ideas in their translation.

These mistranslations can be attributed to students’ lack of target language linguistic competence and the comprehension problems in the source text.
