This study tries to shed light on the image and personality of the champion of the popular resistance, and the founder of the modern Algerian state, '' Emir Abdelkader Ben Mohieddin al-Jazairi'' by tracking the contemporary sources of him that coexisted with him, from the point of view and view of the other, which are the testimonies and writings of those who were once against him.

although thesewritings and testimonies are numerous, both from the officers and generals of colonial France to its soldiers, or through religious foreign prisoners who were among those forces, and even from foreign pens and friendly diplomacy, but most, if not all, agreed on the distinction, uniqueness and greatness of Emir Abdelkader's character, leadership and wisdom in his rule and actions, and emphasized his humanity, perhaps among those writings, the German captive military, Johann Carl Burnett, the subject of our study.
