Abstract EN

This study aimed to explore and identify the main experimental techniques used in contemporary photographic artworks, and to examine the pioneering experiences in experimental photography, which contributed to publicizing those techniques and using them by contemporary photographers.

The sample of the study consisted of six eminent contemporary photographers from the United States of America and some of Arab countries, both male and female.

Results of the study showed the presence of several important experiences in contemporary experimental photography, among various American and Arab photographers, with variation in the techniques used to achieve the experimental features of their works.

Results showed also the variety of artistic styles of the artworks which belong to contemporary experimental photography, which included the styles of expressionism, surrealism, as well as other art movements.

Additionally, results showed the great potentials achieved through the artworks of experimental photographers, which contributed to the distinctive status of photography among the fine arts, while it was a visual documentary tool in the past, with no role beyond the literal recording of reality.

Based on the results of the study, the researchers provided a number of recommendations, which included conducting more specialized studies on the various techniques used by contemporary photographers in their contemporary experimental photographs.
