The research revolves around the cultural convergences between China and Portugal in Senado Square in the Chinese island of Mecau.

This vital, commercial spot is located in the East.

It has been the destination for which Portugal headed in the second half of the sixteenth century and over 400 years, during which the traits and features of the Chinese culture and the Portuguese culture were mingled to produce an original and unique mixture that has its own traits.

We can notice this mixture all over the island of Mecau.

We have selected one of the most vital sites in, which is Senado square, to explore the cultural convergences between these two cultures.

We focused on two points: the plan and design of this square, which have developed over the years, and the architectural masses, which were designed in a neoclassical style with Chinese influences.

This diversity supplied the square and the buildings with a distinct cultural aspect and attracted the researchers to explore it and analyze it.

It is interesting to note that, just as the western classical style of China was moved by the Portuguese, the East Chinese style of Portugal also moved because of the fascination of the architects with that oriental culture.

Since the eighteenth century, the culture of China and other oriental cultures such as ancient Egyptian culture have enjoyed an admiration and admiration of Europeans These cultures are appreciated and an attempt to revive them through the arts and western architecture.
