Abstract EN

The objective of this article aims to know the reasons for the increase in the fertility in Algeria at the beginning of this century, after having experienced a significant drop towards the end of the last century since the total fertility rate was approaching renewal level which is 2.1 children per woman, it rose to 3 children in 2019.

For this study, we used the descriptive and analytical method, based on data of the National Statistics Office.

The results of this study: accumulation of the number of marriages, which had doubled briefly, a decrease in the use of contraceptives since 2006, the decline in the age at marriage, and the modification of the age structure of population, that had an impact on the increase in the volume of marriages.

These results contributed to the increase in the rate of fertility during this last period
