Abstract EN

The aim of this study is to put spotlight on the subtitling as a translation process, that, despite its contribution in the comprehension of foreign movies, and its role in the transfer of knowledges, remains subject to linguistico-cultural norms and constraints that ristrict the translator’s freedom, and therby, reduce the process into a transfer of subordinate ideas, condensed irrespective of the cultural aspect of the dialogue .This controversy has led us to propose a conceptual model about subtitling strategies, whose purpose is to release the translator of the spatiotemporal constranits of subtitling, and therefore contribute to the cultural and linguistic enrichment of the viewer.

Our model is based on the principle of omission (deletion) and including two main components, the first one covers the linguistic aspect, that contains, in turn, the partial and total deletion, the second one, falls within the cultural aspect and also holds two types, the deletion of taboo words and expression encompassing cultural nuances, and the deletion of cultural identity of proper names
