Abstract EN

This study seeks to explore the factors of maintaining Arabic language among Arab immigrants, and it is a case study of four Arab immigrants who live in the state of New Jersey in the United States of America.

They were interviewed in order to investigate language use and language attitudes among the participants.

The results showed that Arabic language is used side by side with English language in different domains (e.g., home, neighborhood, work place, mosque).

The results also showed that there are positive attitudes towards Arabic language among the participants, and it indicated that they were proud of Arabic language, which represents their Arabic and Islamic identity.

Moreover, results showed that they had positive attitudes towards English language as an important instrument of harmonizing with the host community and for achieving their educational aspirations.
