The International Court of Justice is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations.

Since its inception, it has adjudicated several cases before it and has issued numerous advisory opinions on various aspects of international law and international environmental law.

On the occasion of the adjudication of cases in which the Court was presented with some aspects of international environmental law by the parties, the Court contributed to highlighting several legal aspects of international environmental law by addressing the legal value of certain environmental principles and obligations.

Thus contributing to the development of this modern section of international law.
