Abstract EN

In the contemporary period, especially from the second half of the twentieth century, Arabic poetry also undergone fundamental evolutions, gradually moving away from individualism and approaching the atmosphere of society along with the various social evolutions.

This approach was altered in poetry in terms of content and structure, and as a result, the type of poet's insight towards the environment and society also evolved.

Among the poets who step in this unbound realm is Helmi Salim.

He is a committed poet who community has always been a part of his concerns, so that he could never abandon the problems of society and people, so one can say that his poem reflects his humanitarian thoughts and beliefs.

The present study, conducted via an analytical descriptive research method, is to examine the social themes in Helmi Salim’s poetry.

The results of the study indicate that the most important social themes in his poetry include woman, religion, urbanization, equality and justice, social anomalies etc.

in addition, his literary style in such themes is eloquent and understandable for all.

Norm breaking and temerity were among his most prominent features in expressing social issues.

Furthermore, one of his most important stylistic features is the use of repetitive patterns.
