Abstract EN

The social studies curriculum of the primary stage include many issues, problems, environmental and geographical phenomena and historical events, which require untraditional thinking for understanding the relationships between the phenomenon, and where and why it took place.

Thus, developing the skills of lateral thinking is important for the primary stage students.

The research aimed at investigating the effect of the Round Robin strategy on developing the primary stage students' literal thinking skills in social studies.

Data were collected through the research instruments, namely, the literal thinking test list of lateral thinking skills, course manual and teacher's guide for the unit "Economic Activities in Egypt" that were prepared based on the Round Robin strategy.

The research procedures were as follows: writing a theoretical framework on the Round Robin strategy and lateral thinking skills, preparing the study instruments, list of literal thinking skills, course manual and teacher's guide for the assigned unit and the literal thinking skills test.

The research adopted the "pretest-posttest equivalent groups" design.

Results of the research were analyzed and interpreted.

In light of the results, some recommendations and further research were offered.
