Abstract EN

The study aims at showing that both simile and metaphor are used by poets to convey their emotions and feelings.

While the first device is a direct one because it can be distinguished by discursive markers which are “like”, “as” and “such”, the second is indirect losing any discursive markers.

The study shows that these two devices cannot be neglected in poetry to convey the intended messages.

It also shows that the selected two poems which belong to different cultures tackle same topics depending on these two devices with a tiny difference.
