The commandment is one of the arts of the prose that were well known and excelled in among Andalusian writers.

many writers, poets, princes, rulers and statesmen have been interested in writing in this field of prose, such as al-Hakam ibn Hisham ibn Abdul Rahman, Abu Bakr ibn al-Qusayr, Ibn al-Jinan, Ibn Said, Yucef ibn Tashfin, Ibn Tumert, and others.

as for liSane addin Ibn al-Khatib, who was kwown as a famous writer in both east and west of the Muslim world, he made a renaissance of the arts of writing during the eighth century AH, he wrote in rhetoric, letters, debates, and Andalusian MaqamatYet, one of the best writings of Ibn al-Khatib is the commandment in which he addressed minds before hearts among his children, he revealed some of his most important experiences in life.

this study aims at sheding light on the technical characteristics of Ibn al-Khatib's commandment, therefor, the focus in this paper is upon the biography of this outstanding writer, and the technical study of his commandment addressed to his children.
