Abstract EN

This paper aims to shed light on the influence of encyclopedic competence of speakers on decision making in translation, in particular specialized discourse.

It shows the theoretical framework that justifies the translator’s choices, taking into account the parties of discourse, speaker and listener.

It also focuses on the possible solutions for translator in case encyclopedic competence is different between the speaker and listener, due to the growing interference between specialized and general discourses.

Indeed, the specialist, often, finds himself obliged to communicate with the big public and needs a translator/interpreter, in case this public speaks another language.

This situation represents a big challenge to the translator who has to translate a specialized discourse to a non specialized public : focusing on source text risks to not convey meaning to the receiver while orienting all his efforts to the receiver needs a real justification.

In such cases, he can find in the aim from translation, conveying meaning, this justification.

The interpretative and skopos theories are the best example to follow
